About the Organisation
Darwin Community Legal Service (DCLS) is a non-profit community-based organisation committed to legal, social justice and the protection and expansion of rights, fairness, and wellbeing in the NT. DCLS especially works with people who are vulnerable or marginalised.
DCLS:
• Provides legal help, advocacy, and support services
• Collaborates to understand obstacles to justice and try to achieve reform
• Promotes understanding and acceptance of rights, justice, and inclusion
The main services within DCLS are the General Legal Service (GLS), the Seniors and Disability Rights Service (SDRS), and the Tenants’ Advice Service (TAS). All programs work together, enabling integrated socio-legal client support.
About the Opportunity
Mental Health Rights and Empowerment Service (MHRES) is a 2 year pilot program that will focus on;
- legal issues relating to mental illness specifically.
- discrimination in relation to employment, education and insurance.
- housing issues, including problems relating to Department of Housing, private rental and boarding house accommodation.
- social security issues
- consumer issues, such as credit card debt and banking issues, mobile phone and other contractual debt.
DCLS have two exciting and rewarding roles to join the MHRES team in Darwin, NT. These positions are both 2 year Fixed Term Contracts
Social Worker – Full Time (however DCLS is open to negotiate part time hours if required)
Applications from Mental Health Advocates who may not be a qualified Social Worker, but have extensive experience in the Mental Health sector are welcomed!
Solicitor Full Time (however DCLS is open to negotiate part time hours if required)
- Current Northern Territory Practising Certificate is required.
