Opportunity

We're on the lookout for an exceptional Sous Chef to spearhead our dynamic Events Kitchen at Blackbird Bar and Dining, Brisbane.

Blackbird is proud to garner a reputation as an award-winning restaurant in the Brisbane CBD with stunning views and an impeccable standard of service. Ghanem Group Executive Chef Jake Nicolson takes a critical approach to sourcing the finest local beef, working closely with suppliers, and delivering quality and consistency every time. Our naturally fueled, open wood-fired grill takes center stage at Blackbird, infusing the consistent heat of coal, aromatic woods, and live open flame.

The Sous Chef is second in charge to the Head Chef and Senior Sous, managing Events Kitchen operations at the nominated venue to deliver superior quality food to all customers promptly. The Sous Chef has a direct reporting line to the Head Chef. 

Successful candidates will have at least 2 years of experience in a similar role and environment, coupled with the following skills and attributes:

• 2 years of proven work experience as a Sous Chef or Events Chef of a similar size and quality venue
• Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
• Excellent record of kitchen and staff management
• Accuracy and speed in handling emergencies and providing solutions
• Familiar with the industry’s best practices
• Leadership and Management skills, including training, rostering, mentoring experience
• Excellent time management abilities
• Up-to-date knowledge of cooking techniques and recipes
• Familiarity with sanitation and safety regulation
