About the Role

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a safety professional to join the Copper South Australia HSE team as a Safety Specialist – Prominent Hill.

Reporting to the Safety Superintendent, this roles provide coaching, technical expertise and advice on various aspects of safety and risk management to leaders across site.

The Prominent Hill mine is a major copper, silver, and gold mine in northwest South Australia, 130 km south-east of Coober Pedy and 130km north-west of Olympic Dam.

  In the Safety Specialist role, you will:  

  • Analyse safety data and information sources to identify emerging safety trends and recommend safety improvement initiatives.
  • Proactively reach out to site personnel to coach individuals in site safety systems
  • Actively attend various safety routines across site
  • Conduct training sessions across various safety systems.
  • Support investigation quality through maintaining capability in investigation facilitators.
  • Monitor for and support with Safety related operational needs.
  • Support field leadership and safety culture programs
  • Promote and support hazard awareness and identification
  • Implement safety improvement strategies and practices
  • Support the sites Health and Safety Representative Process.

About You

You will be a self-motivated professional with a solid record or accomplishment of achieving results through influence, coaching and mentoring.   To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Previous experience in a safety role.
  • A tertiary qualification, or equivalent industry experience managing safety.
  • Certificate IV in OHS.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to influence at multiple levels in an organisation.
  • Coaching and mentoring skills with a genuine desire to help people, achieve outcomes and support continuous improvement.
  • Experience with facilitating safety incident investigations.
  • Sound data analytical skills.
  • A current C class motor licence or equivalent Australian state motor vehicle licence.
