Specimen Collector (Phlebotomist) - In Smithton

Status:           Part time – 10.5hrs per week (0830-1200 - M, W, F)

                        Fixed term – to cover maternity leave until December 2024

Department:    Specimen Collection 

Location:           Smithton, North West Tasmania

The successful candidate must be prepared to undertake training in Burnie for between 4- 6 weeks

About The Role:

• Smithton based position – extra hours may be available within the Burnie region if desired on Tuesday and Thursday
• Collection of pathology specimens from patients 
• Store and process pathology specimens
• Patient reception and response to client enquiries
• Record patient information
• Attend to the well-being of patients
• Liaise with patients and hospital staff
• Use of laboratory application software
• Extensive training will be provided to the successful candidate
• Potential for casual employment beyond the initial term of appointment

Selection Criteria:

1. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated commitment to service excellence
2. Ability to commit to full-time training in Burnie for a period of up to 6 weeks
3. The ability to work co‑cooperatively 
4. Proven ability to act independently within established guidelines, demonstrating initiative and sound judgement
5. Exceptional skills in applying attention to detail
6. A current unrestricted Australian driver’s licence
