Brightwater’s Capacity Building Program has an exciting opportunity for a South Metro based Speech Pathologist who is motivated by working with adults with neurological and complex disability, living in the community.

You will receive valuable exposure and clinical supervision, to develop your skills in relation to dysphagia and mealtime management, individualised functional rehabilitation programs, oral health, communication disorders and augmentative communication.

The role is offered on a Permanent Part time basis at 60 hours per fortnight and you will enjoy the flexibility and balance of working between our Victoria Park office, at home and in client’s homes. We are a caring and progressive team including 35+ therapists and we collaborate to deliver exceptional client outcomes. We are challenged everyday and there is lots of support and good culture.

More about the role: Our new Huntington Disease Disability Service is based in Piara Waters and is due to open soon. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a Senior Speech Pathologist, to develop skills in this clinically challenging area; and can be involved in supporting the transition of an existing client base and continuity of care from the current accommodation in Carlise to the new state of the art facility. You will be part of discipline specific meetings in our Capacity Building Program and join our South Team Multidisciplinary Team Meetings along with fellow SPs, Dietitians, OTs and Physios, Did we mention we also have work alongside highly skilled PBS Practitioners and a Psychologist? Key Duties/Accountabilities

  • Use SP skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised, outcome based care within an interdisciplinary team and in partnership with the client and their representatives and other relevant stakeholders. This includes dysphagia and mealtime management, communication disorders, augmentative communication and oral health
  • Complete Brightwater documentation to the required standard, and actively collaborate with the client and the rest of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that the care plans for clients are relevant and appropriate
  • Communicate with clients and their representatives in regards to identifying the client’s individualised goals and preferences, developing the client’s dysphagia and/or communication plan and providing information about the SP recommendations, showing respect for the individuals
  • Identify areas for improvement and uses a continuous quality improvement approach to problem solving.

To be successful for the role, you will possess the following attributes:

  • Membership with Speech Pathology Australia
  • Demonstrated competency as a Speech Pathologist to assess, plan, implement and evaluate client care
  • Strong person-centred skills in communicating and engaging with clients with high support needs including cognitive impairment, brain injury, and dementia
  • Working knowledge of occupational safety and
    health legislation; and where relevant, the Aged Care Act (1997); and/or Disability Services Commission Standards (1988)
  • Up to date Flu Vaccination and Covid 19 vaccinations
  • First Aid Certificate less than 3 years old
  • Possess a current Western Australian ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence
  • Current satisfactory National Police Certificate (obtained within the last 12 months)
