About Monash Children’s Hospital at Monash Health
Monash Children’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading providers of integrated children’s health services, with more than 30 specialist services and programs. We have Victoria’s largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and provide leading paediatric services in many areas including Cleft, Rehabilitation, Oncology, ENT, Developmental Medicine, Paediatric Intensive Care. The Children’s Cancer Centre (CCC) at Monash Children’s Hospital (MCH) cares for approximately 30% of Victoria’s childhood cancer patients. The CCC has an ambulatory care unit that is capable of providing complex cancer care across the disease continuum and also admits children with oncological conditions to the paediatric inpatient units within Monash Children’s.
Speech Pathologists at Monash Children’s Hospital sit within the Monash Children’s Hospital Allied Health Team, providing specialised assessment and management of infants and children within the hospital setting in the areas of communication and swallowing/feeding. Each team within Monash Children’s Hospital Allied Health is led by a Profession Lead who operationally reports to the Monash Children’s Allied Health Manager. This position is available 0.6 EFT permanently. There may be an opportunity to temporarily increase hours to full time for 12 months for the right applicant, if this desired.
A Day in the Life
As a Grade 2Speech Pathologist within Monash Children’s you will:
be responsible for providing speech pathology services to infants and children with oncological and other diagnoses within the acute hospital setting.
supervise Speech Pathologists and provide clinical education for students.
be part of a dynamic, evidence-based team and will be involved in service development and quality improvement projects in your clinical area to support high quality clinical care.
This position is based within Monash Children’s Hospital however travel to and work at any Monash Health site will be required. What you need:
Relevant Speech Pathology qualification
Eligible for membership of Speech Pathology Australia
Experience in paediatrics in an acute setting (or other comparable settings)
Experience in teaching and training
Experience in quality improvement.
Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in either:
a) the provision of paediatric speech pathology services including assessment, intervention, case management and discharge planning in the hospital setting (clinical and educational) or
b) provision of speech pathology services to adult oncology patients with demonstrated transferrable skills
Great organisation and ability to work across caseloads
Great communication skills with patients, families and other multi-disciplinary team member
