About the Opportunity
We’re currently looking for an experienced Speech Pathologist to take on a newly established Senior Speech Pathologist role within the SWSLHD Transitional Aged Care Program (TACP). The Senior Speech Pathologist will be responsible for providing high quality clinical assessment and intervention to Aged Care clients who are accessing TACP following discharge from hospital.
The Senior Speech Pathologist provides clinical leadership of the TACP speech pathology team & provides high quality client care, as well as supporting and implementing quality initiatives.
TACP is a unique program focused on the reablement of older adults living in the community. Working with clients, their carers, the TACP multidisciplinary team and other relevant stakeholders, you will be contributing to holistic care that ensures better health outcomes and quality of life over a time-limited period post-discharge from hospital.
As the senior TACP Speech Pathologist, you will be responsible for completing speech pathology assessment, rehabilitative therapy, and clinical management of patients over the age of 65, who may present with a communication impairment and/or dysphagia following their discharge from hospital. It will be your role to provide time-limited interventions aimed at improving a client’s quality of life and increasing participation in their desired activities. The TACP Senior Speech Pathologist will also be responsible for relevant service development and quality improvement.
Location will be at one of our SWSLHD metro offices, based on the preference of the preferred applicant.
What You'll be Doing
The position is responsible for leading, guiding and managing the delivery of speech pathology services to clients eligible for the Transitional Aged Care Program. As a senior clinician the Speech Pathologist is responsible for overseeing and providing an efficient and effective service through the application of clinical expertise and knowledge in the management of clients with communication impairments and/or dysphagia that may arise from conditions including, but not limited to, stroke, dementia, deconditioning post hospital admission or age-related deterioration. They will also contribute to senior departmental duties including clinical supervision, leading of quality improvement activities, participation in service development and other administrative responsibilities as required.

How to Apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria as thoroughly as possible. * Must hold a bachelor or post graduate degree in speech pathology which is accredited as eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.

  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and/or students.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the planning, implementation and evaluation of local service delivery incorporating the quality improvement process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy and time management.
  • Demonstrated commitment to EBP and experience implementing EBP into service planning and evaluation of service changes.
  • Extensive broad generalist knowledge, clinical proficiency and ability to work with minimal supervision, and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience in speech pathology service provision within the Aged Care population.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development, quality improvement and evidence based practice.
  • Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 Licence Acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.
