Job description

The Speech and language Pathologist's key responsibilities are:
* As part of a multi-disciplinary team, and in collaboration with service partners, work directly with staff to develop, facilitate, monitor, and evaluate/review the learning content within therapeutic program delivery to ensure accessibility and responsivity to the individual disability needs, learning needs, and behaviour support needs of young people in Youth Detention.
* Work collaboratively stakeholders in the provision of high-quality Positive Behaviour Support services specifically the evaluation of communication needs and supporting the Detention Youth Workers to implement strategies.
* Contribute to the clinical and professional development of Provisional Psychologists through knowledge building, task demonstration, modelling of communication techniques, or administrative task support.
* Complete professional and clinical tasks that are complex and varied in nature, evidence-based, and responsive to the various policies, procedures, and security considerations within the Youth Detention Centre context.
* With professional independence, flexibility, and initiative, work directly with young people to undertake comprehensive assessment of oral language and literacy skills to support their wellbeing and rehabilitation.
* Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive individualised interventions of significant scope and complexity for young people within Youth Detention.
* Prepare and maintain high standard Speech Pathology reports and subsequent client records consistent with both departmental and professional requirements, and subject to reporting accountabilities.
* Contribute to high standard multi-disciplinary clinical evaluations including comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) when required and clinically indicated.
* Independently co-ordinate the daily workflow processes, and service delivery tasks specific to Speech-Language Pathology practice within the Youth Detention Centre, under the oversight of the Team Leader.
* Demonstrate high levels of initiative to accomplish Youth Detention Centre objectives, undertake practice improvement projects.
* Deputise for the Communication and Psychology Team Leader in work unit specific meetings, tasks, and engagements when both operationally required and professionally appropriate.
* Provide specialised feedback to stakeholders such as the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT), Queensland Ombudsman Inspector of Detention Services, National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), Child Safety, Department of Education, Queensland Health, or other agencies to support the meaningful transition and re-integration of a young person.
