Mill Park Primary School opened in August 1980 and is located in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. The school¿s enrolment of 520 is drawn from a wide geographical area. It is a culturally diverse community with no dominant ethnic group. The school has a commitment to the Early Years and Middle Years philosophies and improving student outcomes is its highest priority. All curriculum planning, implementation and assessment is based on the Victorian Curriculum. English and Mathematics continue to be the highest priorities for resourcing and professional development.

Mill Park Primary Schools vision is to inspire lifelong learning by working together to empower all through quality education. We provide our students with experiences to excel in their learning, develop their leadership qualities, increase their resilience, as well as developing a strong sense of values, in line with the school¿s Inclusion and Diversity Policy.

Our weekly wellbeing program incorporates our 4 school values of Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence, aspects of Respectful Relationships and the incorporation of School Wide Positive Behaviour. Whole school events are conducted annually to embrace and enrich home-school relationships.

Digital Technology is incorporated into all of our programs to promote creativity, problem solving and thinking skills, as well as developing their skills in the area of ICT.

The school continues to build teacher capacity to implement a rigorous approach to teaching and classroom management that supports an engaging and challenging learning environment. The `start-up¿ unit of work at the beginning of each school year creates and establishes a positive climate for learning.

Our goal is to provide experiences for all students that enhance readiness and enthusiasm to continue the next step in their learning, including starting school, moving between year levels or into secondary colleges, in a resilient, confident, and enthusiastic way. The school continues to have ongoing positive relationships with the local preschools. The kinder children visit the school for a transition program over 4 weeks in Term 4. The Prep and Year 6 Buddy Program is a feature of welcoming and inducting the new students into our school.

Selection Criteria

1. An approved qualification in speech pathology for membership of Speech Pathology Australia

2. Appropriate experience as a speech pathologist delivering a comprehensive speech pathology service to students within an educational environment and the ability to provide specialist advise on complex speech pathology issues or program delivery.

3. Ability to work independently , participate effectively in a team environment and to develop collaborative working relationships.

4. Experience and sound knowledge of speech pathology techniques and the ability to develop, provide and evaluate a speech pathology service.

5. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult with and advise other professionals providing services to students.

6. Demonstrated commitment to provide appropriate assessment, treatment and management of students with an intellectual disability, as well as a wide range of physical disabilities.

The successful applicants appointment will be conditional to that person holding a valid Employee Working with Children Check. 

Role

1 day per week (flexible day)

8:45am - 4:00pm

Range 4 is distinguished by broader management responsibility, particularly in the areas of finance, human resource and other support functions.  Range 4 is responsible for managing a range of functions under a wide range of conditions, subject to the size and complexity of school operations. 

Objectives will, generally, be clearly defined; guidelines will be broad and day-to-day direction minimal.  Management responsibility extends to ensuring appropriate support levels are maintained across the school.  Range 4 generally provides key support and timely advice to the leadership team and school council and liaises with the general school community, the Department and other government agencies and service providers.

Specialised professional roles will carry a high level of independence and accountability where suitable scope is provided to achieve objectives.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.  Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employees position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the delivery of support services to students, teachers, parents and other school clients.
  • Ensure all external providers deliver the required service.

  • Applicants must be qualified as a Speech Pathologist/Therapist and registered
  • Demonstrated direct counselling experience
  • A current Employee Working With Children Check.
