About the role
La Trobe Sport is a business unit within La Trobe University tasked with the strategic goal of developing La Trobe to be the University of choice for Sport in Australia.
La Trobe Sport oversees sports related facilities and grounds, and drives sport related programs and partnerships, to ultimately enrich a student’s time at the University through sport. The business unit collaborates across the University with sport related academics and other departments to support and enable, the best sport-related teaching and research, as well as student participation in Sport and Recreation. La Trobe Sport also oversees the active engagement of the wider community on the campus, with the use of its sporting facilities and sport services.
The primary purpose of the AFL Traineeship position is to work with the Regional Sport Coordinator, to assist with a range of administrative functions, sport-related events and activations, and active-Recreation Programs to a broad-range of stakeholders, including university students and community members.

Duties & responsibilities
1. Assist the Regional Sport Coordinator in the preparation, promotion, administration and delivery of a range of Sport and active Recreation Programs. Examples of these include; orientation-week activities, annual Walk/Run Event, School Holiday Programs.
2. Provide excellent customer service to all patrons, escalating to management where required.
3. Attending to relevant tasks, checklists and duties associated with the activity being undertaken.
4. Setup and maintain the necessary equipment and venues for programs.
5. Complete all rostered shifts in the Bendigo Sports Centre, adhering to university and legislative protocols.
6. Attend and participate in relevant meetings and training programs to ensure appropriate professional development.
7. Adhere to and cooperate with all OHS policies and procedures of AFL Sports Ready and La Trobe University.
What we're looking for in a candidate
ESSENTIAL
1. Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
2. Reliable, punctual, and well presented.
3. Ability to work under supervision and take direction, as well as being able to work as part of a team.
4. Sound understanding of, and experience with computer software packages including work processing, data processing and email.
5. Personal interest in, and desire to develop a career in sport-related professions such as sport events, sport development, health and fitness or active recreation.
6. Provide a Current First Aid Qualification prior to commencement of contract.
7. Obtain an Employee Working With Children Check prior to commencement of contract.
Essential Compliance Requirements
To hold this La Trobe University position, the occupant must:
• Obtain a Victorian Working with Children Check and Provide First Aid Certificate prior to contract commencement date.
• take personal accountability to comply with all University policies, procedures and legislative or regulatory obligations; including but not limited to TEQSA and the Higher Education Threshold Standards.
Salary
- National Training Wage Award ($21,500 – $30,000 plus 11% Superannuation)
