About the roleJoin us in building strong relationships with local sports clubs to support diverse community groups in Merri-bek, as outlined in the Merri-bek City Council Human Rights Policy. Your work will ensure fairness and justice in sports, providing equal access to opportunities for all.
You will collaborate with State Sporting Associations and government branches to foster growth opportunities, assist clubs in creating inclusive environments, to grow and flourish and address barriers to participation. Partner with clubs to establish best practice governance, develop policies promoting cultural and gender balance, and coordinate social sport programs based on community needs.
Your role will champion equity and Inclusion, embedding the Sport4all program, and the newly endorsed Allocation Policy within Merri-bek, and ensuring sports are accessible and welcoming to everyone.
Skills and experience require to perform the role- Skills and experience working effectively with sports clubs and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Appropriate tertiary qualification or demonstrated significant experience in sport or recreation management, community development, social sciences or other relevant field.
- Demonstrated experience of working with clubs to address sports club governance, practices and policies
- Demonstrated understanding of Child safety and wellbeing requirements and how this applies in the Sport and Recreation sector.
- Significant experience and understanding of community recreation and community development theory and practice; principles and practices of community inclusion and participation and sports community planning strategies.
- Understanding and commitment to social justice principles and addressing issues around social equity, such as equitable access for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, People with Disability, LGBTIQA+ Communities, Migrant, Refugee and Faith Communities and Women, Girls and Gender Diverse Communities
- Ability to problem solve and negotiate to achieve a successful outcome.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to effectively engage with a wide range of people and work as part of a team.
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
- Proven ability in planning, development and evaluation.
- Current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
