The Role:
The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for driving, influencing, and achieving EHS process excellence, regulatory compliance, and overall risk reduction throughout Industrial and Utility Energy product deployments within APAC region.
This position reports to the APAC EHS Leader and will ensure world-class safety standards are met and sustained across operations. The role will interface with senior regional leadership, front-line operational staff, contracting partners, and other related teams within Tesla to drive and support continuous improvement throughout Tesla’s design and deployment of energy storage systems.
This position will be based in Melbourne and will require travel to sites and on occasion, international travel given the geographical reach of the business.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a technical expert to identify critical risks, including legal compliance requirements and responsibilities in all phases of product deployment and construction, including specific support in the safe design and engineering, installation, commissioning and operations, and preventative maintenance and repair of energy products.
- Develop and maintain a partnership with and become a trusted advisor on EHS matters to operational leaders and stakeholders, associates, and contracting partners.
- Lead the development, implementation, and execution of short and long-term plans for Tesla's Safety program for Utility and Commercial construction projects.
- Be a visible model in the field and teach, train and coach business teams and support staff on fundamental EHS concepts and principles to reduce risk, and influence, inspire and empower business teams and staff to minimise the risk per our Tesla EHS vision, values and principles.
- Respond to and investigate EHS events and support the learning from events by determining causes and preventative actions with management and business teams.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in EHS at an operations level, with field installation and fixed asset operations experience.
- Qualifications in Work Health and Safety with a minimum of Diploma, with an associated Bachelor’s or Post-Graduate degree in a relevant field highly regarded.
- Experience working within the electric power generation, transmission, storage, or distribution industries, highly desireable.
- Detailed knowledge of the functionality of lithium-ion battery storage is preferred, but not essential.
- Practical experience in civil construction safety, including but not limited to electrical safety and environmental risks, and knowledge of Australian and Pacific regional EHS legislative requirements.
- Experience working with regulators across construction projects within Australia.
- Demonstrate the ability to execute the role’s responsibilities in a fast-paced and growing global organisation in a ‘first-principles’ approach.
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to positively interact with the full range of senior business management and regulators, frontline workers and 3rd party clients.
- Expert in MS Office 365 Suite, including SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
