AddressThe Tesla Energy team is seeking a Senior Retail Compliance Manager.
You will have operational responsibility for regulatory compliance strategy in support of our newly developed retail program offerings, building on our experience of behind-the-meter aggregation and virtual power plant programs.
You will also support the wider expansion of our wider energy trading and grid services programs in Australia and APAC. We seek candidates with demonstrated experience in delivering retail energy programs and with a healthy scepticism of the status quo.
Please note, prior Energy market experience is essential.
The role will lead compliance and regulatory oversight for all APAC retail energy market participation for Tesla, in collaboration with US and EMEA colleagues, in a manner that reflects Tesla's bias to action and resistance to conventional process, without incurring undue risk.
Market Access:
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with AU Energy License Conditions, Regulatory Obligations, and Industry codes
- Set requirements and work with commercial functions to design and build business processes, systems, and operations to ensure compliance
- Coordinate with regional and global Tesla teams, such as Policy, Engineering, Sales, and Legal, to setup new business functions in a way that reflects Tesla's bias for action
- Provide support to additional APAC markets as required, particularly during market entry
Market Compliance:
- Define and manage compliance and risk management frameworks
- Continuously and proactively drive simplification of processes, systems, and/or automation to reduce costs of meeting compliance requirements and remove complexity
- Manage all compliance reporting requirements and responses to requests for information from regulators
- Ensure Tesla's retail energy market and market participation function is considered in good standing with regulators and escalate risks appropriately
- Support dispute resolutions concerning fines or penalties
Market Design:
- Proactively engage and educate key internal and external stakeholders on Tesla's positions on market design to unlock residential energy flexibility and inform Tesla's commercial and product functions
- Actively track key policy and regulatory changes in Australia and the wider APAC region
- Proven track record of regulatory and compliance management in energy markets, particularly on topics relevant to AU energy retail supply
- A track record of effectively managing risk profile, mitigating risks, and delivering bottom line impact to the business from your regulatory expertise, relationships, and creativity
- Experience in building up compliance and risk management functions/frameworks
- Ability to thrive in a multi-faceted and fast-paced environment with diverse and global colleagues
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly
- Effective at working across parallel issues and teams, managing a wide portfolio
- Ability to define, strategize, communicate, and deliver against business objectives
- Comfort with situations where outcomes are vague or ambiguous
- A passion for sustainable energy and a healthy scepticism of the status quo in energy markets
