Within the EMEA division, the Goodyear Montluçon plant, located in the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region, specialises in the manufacture of motorbike tyres. Geographically based less than 4 hours' drive from major French cities, the Montluçon production site occupies a central position and has played an important economic role for the town for almost a century.
With its integrated research and development centre, innovative manufacturing processes and committed, forward-looking team of professionals, Goodyear Montluçon's vocation is to supply high-performance, premium-quality products. The plant is currently undergoing a transformation and modernisation project with a view to becoming a centre of excellence in the manufacture of motorbike tyres with high technical added value.We develop and produce TT competition tyres on site (Le Mans/ MOTO 2 Championship / EWC endurance), and develop and supply Goodyear CAR Race competition compounds.

The plant is looking for a Compounder EMEA Motorcycle Road and race
Contract: permanent contract, full-time.
The Compounder EMEA motorcycle road and race is located in Montlucon and provides material solutions to the motorcycle tire product development team.
The Compounder EMEA motorcycle road and race primary purposes are;
The associate will be responsible for translating product performance requirements such as handling, and durability into chemical and physical property requirements of materials, and then developing tire compounds and reinforcing materials which demonstrate high performance. The successful candidate will be a team player with high energy and will be naturally inquisitive.
- own technical knowledge around Compound Development, crown and casing both. This includes basic knowledge of motorcycle related reinforcement components and intra functional interaction
- execute Compound and Reinforcing Materials Development projects with cross-functional teams to deliver new technologies and capabilities supporting future Global Product and Technology development needs.
- ensure support for Motor Cycle Product Development where required to deliver to the global / regional businesses (i.e. material benchmarking, recommendations for compound choices, root cause analysis on compound related items – liaising with APM and GMS metrology labs, liaise with GMS GRT on treatment related items).
- ensure support for tire plants to deliver to the global / regional business (i.e. business continuity, plant support request, MDPO, complexity management, industrialization of compounds and reinforcing materials)
Primary Duties and responsabilities :
Technology Development: Develop new compound formulations and/or tune existing formulations and support Quality with industrialization along with EMEA Product Development road map for optimal performance (tire performance/ manufacturing performance) while considering cost and environment. For technology development follow Global Technology GIR process. Leverage virtual development tools (modeling and (semi)empiric), design and execute/ interpret lab studies. Assist plant trials as required, prepare technical content and execute technical reviews (RMM/ GMS Friday Tech Forum FTF/ GIR gate& stakeholder reviews). Interact with GMS related councils (raw material councils, compound councils, processing councils).
Product Development support: Provide compound/ component recommendations during PCP development phases 1,2 and 3. Utilize materials science expertise to answer questions from design and business team. Provide assistance for trouble shooting/ root cause analysis in materials area in liaison with other functions, apply state of the art methodologies such as problem solving A3, contribute to feasibility studies and DFMEA/PFMEA sessions. Provide support in GMS related areas during product industrialization and ramp up (phase 4/5). Drive GMS support on product maintenance/claims in liaison with APM and GMS metrology, GRMDA/GRT and Quality.
Plant Support: leverage compounding and processing expertise to assist plants and product development team in case of business continuity, plant support request, MDPO, complexity management. This include material testing, trial execution and documentation and preparation of changes in compound formulations, specifications including execution of release documentation.
Functional: Create/change/maintain functional guidelines such as GMDM and compound line up (crown and casing) in GTDM, create and update WIKI pages, share knowledge using KMO best practices, stay up to date on external knowledge (publications, patents, scientific literature), participate in raw material, compounding and processing councils
The profile :
- Experience on structure/property relationships in materials is necessary (0.5+ years, including work at university)
- Experience in data analysis (0.5+ years, including work at university)
- Proficiency in the statistical design and analysis of data (required)
- Expertise in SASjmp. (desired)
- Tire plant experience in mixing/component preparation and with tire production processes (desired).
- Chemical industry experience or Automotive Industry experience
Master/Diploma Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Material Mechanics
- Knowledge of polymers, fillers, and/or reinforced composites.(required)
- Experience in elastomeric formulations (desired)
- Strong ability to work in multidisciplinary teams (required).
- Exceptional communication and technical documentation (required).
- Open minded, dynamic and collaborative spirit with a strong sense of urgency (required)
- Passion for motorcycles and motorsport (desired)
- Ability to travel (10 %) within Europe (required)
- Fluency in English (required).
