The Position:
The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for Staff Specialist – Emergency Department (ED) vacancies.
The Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.
The Emergency Department has direct access to all medical and surgical specialities and has approximately 65,000 presentations per year.
The Hospital:
It’s the second oldest hospital in Australia and the largest hospital in Tasmania. The Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania and is the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania Medical School. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region.
It provides acute, sub-acute, mental health and aged care inpatient and ambulatory services to a population of about 250,000 people in the southern region.
Also, the hospital provides a comprehensive range of general and specialty medical and surgical services including many state-wide services such as cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, extensive burns treatment, hyperbaric medicine, neonatal and paediatric intensive care and high-risk obstetrics.
The Emergency Department opened in March 2007. The department includes an assessment and planning and a short stay observation unit. ED has approximately 60,000 presentations per year.
