About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join AEMO’s Strategy team and be a part of our energy transition and rapidly evolving energy landscape as we tackle key strategic issues and questions and make critical choices, to best achieve our role in the energy industry. The Strategy team develops AEMO’s short to long term strategy for AEMO to navigate the external changing landscape and execute our roles and functions for the benefit of consumers. The team drives, plans and executes AEMO’s strategy through an integrated process with coordination across the organisation. It also develops and implements strategic priorities with the organisation to facilitate the delivery of AEMO’s role and ensure alignment of AEMO’s divisions and activities to the strategy to achieve our vision and purpose now and into the future.
What you will be doing
In this role, you will leverage your energy industry experience and knowledge to analyse Australian energy system and market trends, undertake scenario planning, and identify key implications to AEMO and the energy transition. Key accountabilities include:
- Lead strategic analysis using strategic frameworks and tools to provide critical insights and input to the development of AEMO’s strategy.
- Proactively monitor and evaluate local and international trends to develop strategic insights as inputs to the strategic planning and development process.
- Identify strategic opportunities and risks, undertake scenario planning, and develop practical strategic insights and ‘so what’ for AEMO.
- Lead the development of short – long term strategic planning, including the annual corporate plan, working closely with key stakeholders (Board, Executive Leadership Team, Senior Leadership Team).
- Develop and track strategic initiatives across the organisation, ensuring alignment with our people, managing dependencies, risks and stakeholder needs.
- Coach and mentor junior team members.
What you will bring to the role
- You will have extensive in-depth knowledge of energy markets and systems and the energy industry structure.
- You will have developed a strong foundation of the strategy toolkit through your experience in a senior strategy role within a strategy consulting firm or in-house strategy team.
- Structured thinking and problem-solving skills to develop and frame strategic questions and develop hypotheses.
- Ability to articulate/distil complex themes and data into meaningful and clear narratives and insights.
- You will have proven experience in performing quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Ability to look at the bigger picture as well as focus on the details with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including to executive- and Board-level audiences, with strong attention to detail.
