Diverse Education School Services Officer
Commencing immediately 2024 (32 hours a week)
Available to work at Aldinga Campus
- The successful applicant must have:
- A Certificate 3 or 4 in Educational Support
- Willingness and/or experience and training to provide personal care to students with physical disabilities
Nature of role:
The Diverse Education SSO is accountable to the Diverse Education Teacher for assisting teaching staff in the conduct of special education programs and individualised plans by undertaking basic para-professional, classroom support activities, and personal care tasks to achieve access to, and success in, all areas of schooling and education for students with identified learning difficulties or disabilities.
Main Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be required to:
- prepare, manage and set up the teaching resources.
- support students in the daily class program.
- support the implementation and evaluation of class programs for the students.
- provide personal care for students with physical disabilities i.e. following Continence Care Plans, supervision eating, occasional manual handling.
- collaborate effectively within the Diverse Education Team.
- respect and support colleagues, families, and students through positive communication.
- actively ensure the ongoing provision of quality teaching for students with disabilities and additional educational needs.
- work with both primary and secondary students.
- assist students to successfully participate in camps and excursions.
Reporting/Working Relationships:
The Diverse Education SSO is responsible to the Diverse Education Teacher, Heads of Schools and the Principal.
Other Requirements:
Mandatory:
- A current Working with Children Check (mandatory before commencement)
- A current Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care (RRHAN-EC) (mandatory before commencement)
- A First Aid certificate or be willing to obtain one
Highly desired:
- A highly energetic disposition and a passion for working with students who have special needs
- Relevant and demonstrated experience in similar roles
- An active approach to interacting and engaging with children
- An understanding and working knowledge of working within the school environment
- Strong team skills
- Strong communication skills
- An understanding of and experience in supporting students a range of disabilities and additional educational needs
- Sound IT skills
