This is a permanent part-time (0.8FTE) position commencing Term 2, 2024 

Coodanup College is seeking to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Student Support Officer (SSO) to join their highly effective Student Services Team. 

You will work as part of the Student Services Team to provide pastoral care support to students (both individually and in groups) in a range of settings, encouraging student attendance and achievement at school through providing an environment that nurtures emotional, physical, academic and mental health and wellbeing of all students within a cohort. Our students’ well-being is of the utmost importance to us. As a SSO you will also be responsible for developing intervention strategies which provide a responsive and effective support system for students.

The SSO will be responsible for developing links between students, family and the school and as such, knowledge of the youth sector and associated agencies is desirable, as is experience as a youth worker/Student Support Officer. The successful applicant should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively and be able to prioritise to ensure tasks are completed within set deadlines or as directed. Having experience with high level precise record and note taking to document this on Integris is also highly desirable.

A key aspect of the role will be supporting with Year 6/7 transition including school visits and student interviews. As they form the first impression of the college to the primary school community, the SSO should be able to display high level interpersonal and communication skills.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to provide a professional, confidential service to a range of clients.
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience in the use of computerised management information systems including database, spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Effective organisational skills and experience in providing administrative support with the ability to manage conflicting timelines.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
