As the Student Support Officer, you will assist in the coordination of the Student Support Program and in developing and introducing systems and intervention strategies which provide a responsive and effective support service for students, family members and staff. In addition, you will engage with administrative processes that ensure a scheduled well-organised Student Support service and up to date medical records.
To be successful in this role you will ideally have high level communication skills, the ability to work autonomously within a team and possess excellent organisational skills in student focused resolution and negotiation, strong networking skills and the ability to problem solve in a student services team. These skills will support the successful applicant to create positive relationships with service providers and key stakeholders. The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge and experience of working with allied health professionals when working towards student centred outcomes. It would be desirable that applicants possess a strong understanding of disabilities and the management of students with disability in an educational environment. Experience in management of student transition from primary school, trauma informed practices, School of Special Education Needs: Disability (SSEN:D) and School of Special Education Needs: Sensory (SSEN:S), Child Protection and Family Support (CPFS) management and case conference organisation is highly advantageous.
Dianella Secondary College Educational Support Centre (ESC) is a diverse multicultural secondary school that caters for students with disabilities from Year 7 to Year 13. Our staff are friendly, organised and work together to ensure a supported professional environment. We are situated in a beautiful location on the same site as Dianella Secondary College and adjacent to Dianella Primary College. Together, we have developed a positive relationship focused on supporting students and families.

Parents are encouraged to take an active role in their child's education and have become an integral part in the development of educational programs.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
- Effective planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing prioritises within timelines.
- Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
- Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
- Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
