We are seeking to establish a pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.

Student Support Officer’s facilitate and deliver evidence based Social Emotional Learning programs in consultation with Heads of Year and Wellbeing Program Coordinators.

Student Support Officer's work in a large, highly structured, dynamic student services team with a focus on supporting the wellbeing needs of the Southern River College community Student Support Officer’s work collectively with the Wellbeing Team to organise and support Wellbeing initiatives within the Multitiered System of Support model including whole school positive behaviour initiatives, awareness days, Year Group specific events and Good Standing reward activities.

A collaborative and consultative approach is ideal, as well as experience in supporting students and staff in processes including, but not limited to: attendance, engagement, risk management, incident management and emotional regulation is advantageous.

Student Support Officer’s should establish and maintain effective communication and goal oriented relationships with external and internal stakeholders to support student outcomes. Knowledge and experience of working within the Upper School structures is advantageous but not required.

Student Support Officer’s work intensively to support students at educational risk and ideally work intensively to support students at educational risk,

Successful applicants should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively and be able to prioritise to ensure tasks are completed within set deadlines. Applicants who possess exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to maintain professional boundaries, while adopting a student-centred approach that contributes to positive student outcomes will be highly regarded.

Experience and credibility in student engagement and transitions, case management, social and emotional learning program development, a background in Student Support and current professional learning, or the capacity to undertake targeted professional learning is highly desirable.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities within timelines.
  • Good research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to identify problems and provide solutions.
  • Skills and experience in working with individual or small groups of students experiencing difficulties.
  • Knowledge of the youth sector, particularly local organisations and services.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
