Papua New Guinea 

New Porgera Limited (NPL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine, it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports. NPL offers experienced mining professionals the opportunity to play an important role in the training and development of our national workforce. As the Studies Manager Capital Projects & Operations, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing comprehensive project studies from initiation to completion. The ideal candidate will possess strong project management skills, a keen understanding of study methodologies, and the ability to lead interdisciplinary teams. This role involves coordinating feasibility studies, conducting risk assessments, and delivering detailed project plans. The Study Manager will play a crucial role in shaping project strategies, ensuring efficient execution, and delivering high-quality study outcomes. The candidate must possess strong relationship and communication skills, with a solid operational background to articulate conceptual mining activities to relevant stakeholders.

The Roles Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage project studies, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scopes, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Understand the long-term strategy and develop a pathway to deliver the project.
  • Oversee the development and execution of feasibility studies, including technical assessments, market analysis, and financial evaluations.
  • Coordinate and develop key inputs of the study including project schedules, capital and operating cost estimates, approvals, and business cases.
  • Evaluate and recommend optimal project solutions based on study findings.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans outlining tasks, milestones, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to establish project goals and deliverables.
  • Identify potential risks associated with project studies and develop strategies for risk mitigation.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and optimization in the execution of project studies.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and incorporate best practices into project study management processes.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Project Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing project studies or similar complex projects within a mining setting. Experience in major mining infrastructure projects with a focus on infrastructure related to mine expansion will be well-regarded.
  • Ability to lead and develop a team of technical professionals.
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop and execute project plans.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Ability to write reports and presentations to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to present at senior management and executive levels.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.
