  • Coordinate data collection and management for the genomics project on inherited retinal diseases, aiming to identify target genes for diagnostics and treatments.

About the Role
The Research Coordinator at the University of Melbourne's TAGC Ocular Genotyping Hub manages tasks related to a genomics project on inherited retinal diseases. Responsibilities include participant recruitment, sample collection, and data management, contributing to the university's partnership with Illumina for genomics research and innovation in the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Work alongside Research Coordinators and Principal Investigators to collect clinical data (e.g., eye examinations and retinal imaging) from medical records and clinical visits.
  • Oversee the collection, processing, and management of biological samples.
  • Offer administrative and research support, including ethics and research governance reporting and providing data reports to team members and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting and developing various aspects of the project.
Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will possess familiarity with clinical research and trials, knowledge of research guidelines and regulations, experience in managing large databases and performing data analysis. Familiarity with genetic or ocular diseases is preferred, with training provided if needed.
You will also have:
  • Relevant qualification in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
  • Experience with coordinating research and/or project management.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
