We are recognised for our culture, innovation and industry-leading development of infrastructure, mining assets and green energy initiatives.Our OpportunityWork Location: Gladstone, QueenslandRoster: Monday to FridayFortescue is seeking a Superintendent - Hydrogen Operations to join the exciting and energetic Fortescue Hydrogen Systems (FHS) team.FHS is leading Fortescue's development a portfolio of hydrogen products centred on the production of renewable hydrogen. FHS is underpinned by Fortescue's world class expertise, operational excellence, and proven capability to drive future growth.FHS has made the Final Investment Decision to build PEM50, a 50MW green hydrogen facility in Gladstone, Queensland, utilising Fortescue's own electrolyser technology. PEM50 is both a standalone plant, and a product that can be replicated for large scale hydrogen facilities. FHS is also constructing a 4MW electrolyser stack testing facility as part of its adjacent electrolyser stack manufacturing facility.Reporting to the Manager - Readiness during the project phase, and the Manufacturing Operations Manager - Gladstone during the operational phase, the Superintendent - Hydrogen Operations role is an integral member of the Leadership team and is responsible for management of all aspects related to operations of the Gladstone PEM50 Asset, a 50MW hydrogen producing facility, and the Gladstone Test Facility, a 4MW electrolyser stack testing facility, including the full scope of Safety, Production, Planning, Procurement, Process, Continuous Improvement and Logistic functions.This role will be involved with Operational Readiness activity for the Gladstone PEM50 and Gladstone Test Facility projects, prior to operational handover, when the role will become the Asset Owner.The role will require an individual who is confident in moving in a fast-paced environment whilst ensuring related activities are performed in accordance company policy, contractual agreements, quality standards, health, safety & environment requirements, financial targets, as well as schedule commitments.Key Responsibilities
  • Implements and adheres to health, safety, process safety, and environmental standards, guidelines and directives to ensure safety of people and resources
  • Focuses on achievement of operating cash flow, on-time production and on-cost, delivery on-time and achieve specified cost reductions and increased production outputs
  • Develops programs, projects, goals, and metrics to lead the organisation to the highest level of operational performance
  • Prepares annual budget, oversees progress, and determines actions to cost issues as necessary in order to manage operations within the budget and resources
  • Report to Management on critical constraints to meet current and future demand, provide recommendation and feedback on improvement opportunities to cost, quality, safety and process
  • Develops and executes plans to reduce non-value added costs, increase revenues, and delivering products on time with high efficiency, First Pass Yield and quality while ensuring HSE requirements are met
  • Builds an effective, capable and high performing organisation. Develops talent, appoints teams and reviews effectiveness. Train and coach teams to improve safety, quality, process and continuous process improvement
Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant tertiary technical qualifications in engineering or management and relevant experience
  • 8 years+ experience in successful leadership of production facilities.
  • Demonstrated skill in managing health, safety and environment issues, assessing risks and hazards and implementing processes to manage those hazards to prevent incidents, injury and damage
  • The ability to articulate the company vision and values influencing individual and group goals and management systems
  • A proven track record for consistently accomplishing tasks that engenders trust with the executive
  • Ability to proactively develop effective working relationships at all levels of the business and demonstrated track record of working collegiately with the operations and executive team
  • Ability to problem solve and capacity to generate creative solutions utilising team or external resources to deal with organisational challenges and opportunities
  • Excellent Communication, Conflict Management & Resolution skills
  • Previous experience in Operations highly regarded
  • Previous experience in chemical, oil, and/or gas facilities (or similar) highly regarded
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective relationships at all levels
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a drive for excellence
