Located in northwest Queensland, Cannington boasts an underground mine and processing facility situated approximately 800 kilometres west of Townsville and a concentrate handling facility at the Port of Townsville. Cannington mine provides on-site accommodation including meal services, as well as sporting and gym facilities.What South32 Offers:Annual short-term incentive bonus that recognises both your individual performance and the overall success of the businessDiscounted rates on travel, healthcare, and technology productsEducation assistance up to $8000 per yearThe opportunity to become a shareholder of South32 through our share plansAbout the roleThis role is a Permanent 4:3 dayshift roster, FIFO from Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns, or DIDO Mt Isa.As Operations Engineering Superintendent, you will be responsible for the effective organisation and operation of people, processes, and equipment to enable the sustainable delivery of mining team targets for safety, volume, productivity, and cost in alignment with the business plan.Reporting to the General Manager of Operations, this role is based in a challenging and exciting environment and results in a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:Work within the South32 Safety Guarantee including safe & effective leadership of Operations Engineers and Underground Operations teamFrontline leadership, people management and technical guidance of a large team of Operations Engineers.Ensuring all aspects of the mining operations meet all safety, quality, environmental, regulatory and operational standards requirements.Manage the short-term planning aspects of daily, weekly and monthly activities of a combined owner-operator & contract mining team to ensure that plans are effective, compliance is achieved, costs are minimised, and the operating budget is achieved in the identified KPIs;ABOUT YOUYou will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:Ability to develop, coach and mentor employees to improve communication, engagement, diversity, and capabilityCommitted to improving workplace culture through modelling and coaching positive work habits.Strong working knowledge of mining methods and the ability to improve mining practices and mine planning processesProven success at leading and engaging operational teams to deliver outcomes that consistently meet or exceed targetsAbility to negotiate and influence others with credibility and trustProactive in identifying and resolving problems and/or improvement opportunities.Qualifications for this position are:Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or within an appropriate disciplineHold or be eligible to qualify for a Queensland First Class Mine Manager Certificate of Competency (or equivalent).South32 is committed to building and maintaining an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the communities in which we operate.
