About this part of our organisation:
Our Zinc Assets in Australia include multiple & geographically dispersed operations, including underground and open pit mines, processing plants and port facilities. Additionally we have operations across Asia, the American continents and Europe. Mount Isa is home to the majority of our Zinc assets in Australia and this role is therefore based residentially in Mount Isa.
About your potential new position:
Your primary purpose will be to develop strategies that will result in the optimal inventory investment that minimise cashflow and stockholding cost. This role involves various responsibilities aimed at maximising the application of inventory management methodologies, to improve, control and optimise the investment in inventory. Due to the wide variety of mining, mineral processing and support activities carried out across our business, combined with the wide variety of equipment types and ages, we carry literally hundreds of thousands of different stock items to keep the operations running. Your ability to manage and coordinate the systems, processes, data and team is critical to keeping our business running and containing costs.
To deliver on that purpose some of your responsibilities will include:
- Assessing current inventory levels, predicting future demand, and planning procurement accordingly to prevent stockouts or overstock situations.
- Collaborate with other departments such as Plant-Maintenance, Warehouse and Procurement to ensure alignment, efficient scheduling, and synergies in material supply to support mining operations.
- Identify and assess risks and inefficiencies related to supplier reliability, with a focus on mitigating negative impacts on stock holding.
- Oversee stock management based on material groups, employing various stockholding strategies such as Consignment Stock, Vendor Managed Inventory, and Pipeline Stocking.
- Material cataloguing, creating new material numbers, enhancement of descriptions and classification of materials.
- Generating reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), such as turnover rates, stockouts, and excess inventory, and analysing data to make informed decisions and improvements.
- Facilitate and present training sessions for end-users, ensuring proficiency in supply chain procedures.
- Working collaboratively with your team to continually upskill, develop and encourage.
We will expect you to have:
- An applicable diploma / certificate (A degree will be an advantage).
- Experience: 3 – 5 years working with complex inventory management.
- High computer literacy with large inventory systems (We utilise SAP and Coupa).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Solid data analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Resilience to thrive (and bring your team along too) in an evolving environment.
