Job description

About the role

Gain skills for life in a unique 12-month Gap Year experience as part of the Army Supply Chain.

Supply Chain soldiers play a critical role in providing direct support to ADF logistics and keep the Army moving.

During your Gap Year experience, you will build skills in your specialty to help coordinate complex Supply Chain operations such as getting essential military equipment to where it needs to be, ensuring ammunition is supplied to the correct locations or keeping the Army’s top machines functioning by performing a wide range of technical fuel functions.

Throughout your Gap Year program, you will be supported by professional and dedicated Army personnel, who will provide the guidance necessary for you to get the most out of this experience.

Your training will begin at Kapooka in Wagga Wagga, NSW, where you’ll complete approximately 9 weeks of recruit training. Training will involve physical training, weapon handling and shooting, first aid, drill and field craft. It’s challenging, but it will prepare you for anything.

On completion of your Initial Military Training, you’ll grow your skills and expertise in one of the following roles:

Warehouse Coordinator - Keep the Army moving in this crucial logistics role, handling the receipt, storage and delivery of military equipment and supplies for operations in any environment.

Ammunition Supplier - Play an integral role in supporting troops and commanders, ensuring ammunition and explosive ordnance is managed and delivered to the correct locations in a safe and usable manner.

Fuel Specialist - Manage and distribute fuel and lubricant supplies, and carry out the refuelling, in this action-packed role that keeps trucks, tanks and helicopters operational.

So, what happens next? After finishing your Gap Year program, you can choose to continue your career in the Army or use the skills and experiences to gain an edge in future careers. There’s no obligation to serve beyond the one-year program period.
