About this Program

StandBy Support After Suicide is Australia's leading suicide postvention program dedicated to supporting people and communities impacted by suicide. Established in 2002, StandBy operates in every state and territory. The StandBy program is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the people and communities we support. We encourage applicants with a Lived Experience of Suicide bereavement, as well as those from diverse backgrounds, including (but not limited to) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, CALD and LGBTQIA+.

About the opportunity

The role of the Support Team Worker in the StandBy ACT team is responsible for the provision of support to those who have been impacted or bereaved through suicide as directed by the StandBy ACT/Murrumbidgee Coordinator. The Support Team provides direct support to assist individuals and groups who have been impacted by suicide in the ACT. The Support Team Worker is an on-call position (after hours or weekend work) and may be required to travel for the support work including overnight stays.

About you

You will have a great understanding of the impact of suicide on individuals, groups, communities, and/or related disciplines such as trauma, grief, and loss with demonstrated evidence of sector engagement, community development and partnerships. Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is desirable, however if you are the preferred applicant, you will be supported to obtain upon recruitment.

You will also need

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent level of expertise and experience in social science, health or associated disciplines relevant to the requirements of the position
  • Current valid Driver's License and the ability to undertake travel for the role
  • Current Working with Children Check and NDIS Workers Screening Check
  • Right to Work within Australia
  • Satisfactory National Police Records Check
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module Certificate
