AddressI am a mature female seeking a respite worker who will welcome me into their home for fortnightly breaks from my day-to-day living arrangement. I’m also looking for a Support Worker who will accompany me on my community outings.
I am looking for someone of similar age. I love animals, so someone who has pets would be beneficial. I have a quick wit and a dry sense of humor, which I honed in my years of experience as a bartender. I am comfortable enough in myself that some silence in a conversation is okay. I am a smoker and enjoy going to my local RSL for a meal occasionally.
I enjoy reading novels and love to listen to music such as Butthole Surfers, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the Cure and others from the 80s/90s genre. I enjoy collecting antiques and sometimes repurposing them into new projects. I enjoy being around cats and other animals, but not so fond of young children. I enjoy cooking Asian food, and sometimes I like a good steak with a simple salad. I would like to return to cooking more complex meals with the right support.
I live with an acquired brain injury as the result of a medical event several years ago. I have worked hard to regain my old life and continue to work towards this. It is important that the people I work with recognise my autonomy and try not to over-support me. At times, my memory and cognition may require subtle and innovative prompting to safeguard me unobtrusively.
Essential Qualities and Experience.
- A valid Driver’s License
- A reliable vehicle with comprehensive Insurance
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain one.
- Current First Aid, or willingness to obtain one.
- Excellent communication skills, including verbal, written, and listening skills
Desirable Qualities and Experience
- Experience working with person with a brain injury
- Experience working with positive behaviour support.
- An innovative and curious mind.
