Support Workers with our Complex and Individualised Support team are built different.
They have an extraordinary amount of patience and empathy towards clients with complex support needs. They come from a variety of social backgrounds often with some lived experience.
They can have a wide range of work experiences including nursing, education, counselling, social work, disability support and youth work.
All of this adds together to create a Support Worker who is able to build rapport with clients, remain calm in challenging situations, and approach their clients in a compassionate and non-judgemental way.
Our clients in this program have a range of challenges including mild cognitive impairment, trauma and attachment challenges, acquired disabilities (such as ABI) and stable, but sometimes challenging, mental health needs.
Being a Support Worker in the Nexus Complex and Individualised Support team
You will be working in an established therapeutic team where you are supported professionally and personally.
Initially you will have regular casual work with the possibility of attaining regular set shifts. We provide 24/7 support to clients so shifts will include morning, day, evening and sleepover shifts and may be in residential or community settings.
We provide Nexus employees with a pathway to permanent positions and specialised training is offered to match client needs including comprehensive Autism Awareness Training, Trauma Informed Training and first aid and medications Training.
Who we are looking for (selection criteria)
This role is suited to people who have a desire to support people to build their capacity and achieve their best. We also want staff who desire a career in human services.
You don't need specific Support Worker experience, but you will need to be experienced and confident working with clients who have complex support needs and may have behavioural challenges.
- Understanding of active support principles
- Experience with mental health, trauma, psychosocial and intellectual or physical disabilities (professionally or personally)
- Understanding of self-care strategies to aid in professional and personal positive outcomes
- Interests and personal attributes that provide assistance in the capacity building of people with a disability.
- Experience in Microsoft suite (including Outlook, Teams and Word) and other systems used for reporting and rostering, or ability to acquire
