About the Business Unit:
The Office of the Public Advocate (OPA) is an independent statutory office accountable to the Victorian Parliament which has been established to protect the rights of, and enhance the position of, people with disability in Victoria. OPA is a human rights organisation that promotes the diversity and inclusion of all people.

About the Role:
The Supported Discussions Project Officer is a new role at OPA reporting to the Inclusion Projects Manager. The role will lead the delivery of the community education component, including the development of a short video, of the grant-funded project: Supported discussions: Promoting ways Victorian service system organisations can remove barriers to access to services by using supported decision-making strategies (Supported Discussions project). The role will also engage with the project partner that will deliver the short-term advocacy component of the project.

Some of your duties will include:
Working with the Inclusion Projects Manager and other OPA staff, lead the coordination, development and delivery of information sessions.
Coordinate advisory committee meetings during the life of the project. The advisory committee will involve people with lived experience of disability and will play a key role in informing the community education component of the project through a co-design approach.
With the OPA Inclusion Projects Manager, Communications Projects Officer and other OPA staff, play a lead role in the development of a short videotargeted at staff from service system organisations.

About you:
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Ability to draw on lived experience of disability to understand the experiences of, and barriers faced by, people with disability (particularly people with cognitive disability)
Knowledge of the disability self-advocacy sector
Demonstrated commitment to promoting the right to autonomy for people with disability and principles of supported decision making
