As a Senior Automation Engineer at Moderna's Melbourne facility, you will be a key player in our advanced GxP manufacturing operations. Your role will center around the efficient operation and optimization of cutting-edge systems like DeltaV, Syncade, and Pi. You will be responsible for ensuring these systems function flawlessly to produce our groundbreaking mRNA therapies. Your expertise in automation will not only streamline our manufacturing processes but also play a vital role in delivering transformative treatments to patients globally. You will be at the heart of our efforts to revolutionize medicine, using your skills to impact patient lives directly.

Here's What You’ll Do:

Within 3 Months, You Will…:

  • Immerse yourself in the intricate details of the manufacturing facility's construction, CSV/CQV phases, and overall delivery, ensuring all automation aspects are on track for a successful launch.

  • Begin to identify and troubleshoot potential challenges within our GxP manufacturing systems, applying your expertise to optimize performance and reliability.

  • Initiate coordination efforts for maintenance activities, working closely with various teams to establish a comprehensive understanding of the interconnected systems and ensure seamless operations.

Within 6 Months, You Will…:

  • Play a pivotal role in embedding and maintaining a culture of compliance and excellence within our design and operational frameworks, ensuring that all automation solutions are compliant with GMP standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Actively engage with business owners and cross-functional teams, providing insights and training on the capabilities and functionalities of our automation systems, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and understanding.

  • Take a leading role in collaborative validation activities, working in tandem with Manufacturing, Engineering, Validation, and QA teams to ensure systems are validated to the highest standards and ready for operational use.

Within 12 Months, You Will…:

  • Lead and oversee critical investigations, CAPAs, deviations, and change controls, demonstrating a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

  • Become an integral part of supporting both regulatory and partner audits, as well as internal audits, showcasing the robustness and compliance of our automation systems.

  • Make significant contributions to maintaining and updating GMP system documentation, managing compliance activities effectively, and ensuring that all processes and systems are up-to-date, efficient, and fully compliant with regulatory standards.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technology discipline.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in a similar role within the biotech or related industry.

  • Strong knowledge of computer systems validation and GMP regulations.

  • 2+ years of experience with Emerson DeltaV DCS.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in dealing with multiple projects and working in a multi-disciplinary team, managing multiple tasks/assignments with staggered due dates and deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to make crisp decisions in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and build collaborative relationships with colleagues and business partners.

  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in an understandable manner to various stakeholders.

  • Experience supporting various digital manufacturing systems including Syncade and OSI Pi.

  • Experience working in an operational GxP facility, demonstrating a strong understanding of the regulations and standards in this environment.

  • Proficiency in IT networking, with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize.

  • Understanding of biopharmaceutical processes and equipment.

  • Ability to quickly adapt and learn new skills and technologies.
