The fixed term to July 2028 position will provide research and development extension and Industry Development services to berry growers throughout Tasmania. We need a motivated self starter who can relate to growers, other industry members and research fraternity, and work as part of a small team.
The position is currently 0.8 full time equivalent but may also be available full time, subject to funding availability.
This position is within Fruit Growers Tasmania which is a not-for-profit organisation whose primary role is to represent and support Tasmanian fruit growers.
The Tasmanian Berry Industry Development Officer is funded by Horticulture Innovation Australia through Berries Australia to deliver the national project “MT 22010: Facilitating the Development of the Australian Berry Industries”, using Blueberry, Raspberry and Blackberry and Strawberry Levies and funds from the Australian Government.
This role has close links with the other Berry Industry Development Officers situated throughout Australia under the guidance of the Berries Australia team.
The position also leads the national technical focus for raspberries and blackberries within the project.
Core competencies and experience (selection criteria)- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability in stakeholder engagement and management including internal and external people and organisations
- Demonstrated experience working with agricultural producers to achieve Industry Development outcomes
- Demonstrated ability in managing multiple tasks including time, resources, budget management and report writing and submission
- Ability to work autonomously on a day to day basis, whilst also working cooperatively with others to achieve Industry Development goals and as part of a small team
- Tertiary qualifications in agriculture or science, and relevant experience in an Industry Development, extension or on-farm Berry Industry role would be highly regarded.
- Permanent residency for Australia or Australian citizenship
- Will be negotiated on an individual basis with a salary in the region of $90,000 on a full time equivalent basis

- The position is preferably based in our Hobart office with regular travel required throughout Tasmania and some interstate travel.
