Newton Moore ESC is an Independent Public School nestled in the thriving and idyllic coastal City of Bunbury, WA. The Centre is specifically designed to meet the needs of Years 7 to 12 students with intellectual disabilities or autism with high needs. We offer a caring, respectful, small school environment where all students participate and actively engage in all facets of school life.
Our school has been recognised as an Excellent Public School, central to this award was our innovative programs but most importantly the outstanding staff who are passionate about our students.
At Newton Moore ESC we believe that effective teachers build relationships and connections which are key to student success. We are role models and lead by example in our classes.
We know strong self-reflection is important and take opportunities to grow. We acknowledge and challenge our cultural responsiveness and seek to learn. We take opportunities to know our students from all transition points in school and all areas of their wellbeing. We take an interest in them as individuals and all they can add to our school tapestry.
We plan with the child at the centre, with families and young people, through IEP's and Person Centred Plans. We differentiate our learning through tiered responses and collaborative planning. Our learning is delivered through strong relationships and structured routines with clear, taught expectations. We create safe learning spaces with tiered supports and trained staff to build student academic, social and pastoral needs.
We teach our students in the way they prefer to learn; we recognise our learners are individuals and required approaches that meet where they are at as we do with assessment.
