As the Learning Support Teacher, you will work closely with the pedagogy of Steiner education to develop and deliver comprehensive Learning Support programs across the primary and middle school. This will cater to the diverse needs of our students, encompassing sensory, physical, emotional, social, and academic needs. 

The Alice Springs Steiner School offers Early Childhood, Primary and Middle School Steiner education. Our school is situated on Arrernte country, ten minutes from the township of Mparntwe | Alice Springs. 

Start Date: Immediate. 

Hours of Duty: 0.8 FTE (Flexible) 

Faculty: Primary & Middle School 

Salary: $83,000 - $119,000 Pro-rata (salary sacrifice + leave loading)

Responsible to: Principal 

Responsibilities:

• Offer professional expertise and support to the school community in developing Educational Adjustment Plans (EAPs) to assist students in achieving positive educational, developmental, and lifelong learning outcomes. 
• Focus on preventative and early intervention strategies to foster resilience and personal skills development. 
• Work with individuals and small groups both in and out of the classroom. 
• Liaise and communicate with teachers, parents and carers about students and their progress. 

Administrative duties: 

• Duties will include managing accurate records that track student progress, and communicating with professionals, teachers, and parents. You will be required to assist in student interviews to determine adjustments for enrolment from Class 1 to Class Eight. 
• The successful applicant will work as part of a team of which includes other Learning Support staff, ISA’s, classroom assistants, the Faculty of Teachers, external health professionals and the principal. 
• You will be able to develop useful resources, assessments and plans to Support Teachers in their teaching. 

Preferred knowledge and experience: 

• Familiarity, understanding of the principles of Steiner Education and of child development. 
• A knowledge of contemporary thought and issues about Learning Support Education, including programming, assessment procedures, legal considerations, and legislative requirements. 
• Knowledge and experience of mainstream educational theory in general, and in working with students who have barriers to learning. 
• Understanding and experience in working with retained reflexes, movement-based therapy and/or art therapy. 

Qualifications: 

• Bachelor of Education. 
• Able to be registered with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory or ability to obtain prior commencement of employment. 
• Current First Aid or willingness to obtain prior to commencement of employment. 
• A current Ochre Card or the ability to obtain prior to commencement of employment.
