Ridge View Secondary College (SC) is seeking to appoint a dedicated, highly competent, and enthusiastic English teacher with excellent interpersonal skills. Our college embraces our motto of ‘Believe’, ‘Aspire’ and ‘Pride’ across the board, and we are looking for a teacher who will promote these core values.

The English department is a learning area that prides itself on its collegiality and support; staff can expect a range of development and coaching opportunities to help them reach their professional goals. In addition, staff can expect to be involved in a range of curriculum development and leadership roles, whilst there are opportunities for suitable teachers to teach ATAR English and Literature in the future.

The successful applicant will ideally show the professional knowledge, practices and experience to deliver an engaging and relevant secondary school English curriculum. As part of this role, you will engage and build productive working relationships with students and be involved collaboratively with your colleagues to improve student results.

Similarly, the successful applicant should have the ability to work collaboratively to plan and implement effective teaching and learning plans. Applicants will ideally provide excellence in creating and maintaining supportive and safe learning environment and provide educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve their highest potential.

Finally, the successful applicant should be someone who places high emphasis on parent partnerships and desires to communicate with parents regularly throughout the year. We are seeking highly organised people who have good communication skills, are solution focussed and want to contribute to the entire college community.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
