Alternative to Alternative education. Indie Academy provides young adults with the opportunity to learn in a supportive environment using Hybrid learning and individualised education plans tailored to each student's own education and life circumstances. 1:1 teaching and small class sizes allow students greater opportunity to identify their strengths and work towards their SACE.
The Indie Academy is an innovative educational program that is integrated into Indie school campuses nationwide. Through our Learning Management System, Canvas, you will have the chance to develop interactive online material for students to utilise. Additionally, you will be involved in coordinating weekly community lunches for students, as part of our Eat Well, Do Well Program.
Core Workplace Objectives
- Preparation and delivery of programs in line with appropriate curriculum.
- Ensuring the most effective use of time and resources in the delivery of workshops aligned to student’s individual learning and pathways plans.
- Promoting the school’s alternative educational and strengths-based model to ensure student goals and personal outcomes are achieved with the focus on “Changing the Lives of Young People.”
Workplace Tasking & Key Responsibilities
Teaching duties are aligned with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Key duties of the teacher may include but are not limited to:
- Writing curriculum that provides adjustments for students (this requires an understanding of State curricula; understanding of the State Curriculum F-10 will be highly regarded)
- Planning, writing, and delivering structured lessons that differentiate and personalise the learning for each student
- Embedding best practice pedagogy into lesson plans to engage students.
- Working collaboratively in a small team to implement feedback.
- Embracing opportunities to participate in coaching and mentoring programs.
- Supporting young people with a range of learning needs, including disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, low levels of literacy/numeracy, and mental illness.
- This includes personalising the learning for individual students pursuant to the levels of adjustment of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).
- Collaborating to write Individual Learning Plans for all students
- Embedding the strategies from Individual Learning Plans in lessons to support the needs of the student
- Providing timely and specific feedback to students to support learning growth (particularly through formative assessment practices).
- Assessing and reporting student achievement and progress
- Behaviour management (including an understanding of trauma-informed practice, or a willingness to gain this knowledge)
For this position with our company, applicants must be willing and able to provide:
- Qualification in Teaching
- Annual National Police Checks
- Working with Children Check
- Hold a current South Australian teacher registration (SA)

Remuneration:
- Level 12 – Level 18 (AWCC Enterprise Agreement 2022-2025) $95,593 - $123,690 + super based on training and experience.
