This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024

Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School (CHS) is seeking a passionate, dedicated and innovative teacher to join their team in the role of Teacher - Science.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School in 2024 are eligible to receive an Attraction and Retention Incentive of $10,000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.  

The ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

About the role

The successful applicant will ideally display the ability to provide purposeful and relevant learning experiences that cater for different student learning needs as outlined in the Western Australian Curriculum, employing research-based high impact teaching strategies.

It will be highly regarded if the successful applicant can develop a supportive and positive classroom environment, possess effective interpersonal skills and ideally be able to work collaboratively and effectively in a professional learning community setting. The successful applicant should display an ability to elicit positive student behaviour using an educative approach.

You should have a commitment to inclusive education and a strategic approach in planning for improved student outcomes. The capacity to differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of students with a range of achievement levels, language backgrounds and learning difficulties will be highly regarded. In keeping with this, the successful applicant will ideally be committed to maximising the engagement and progress of all students.

In the first instance, only applicants with teaching qualifications will be considered. Where there are no suitable applicants with teaching qualifications, applicants without teaching qualifications may be considered.

We will also consider an internal secondment opportunity for permanent teachers in other locations within the Department of Education who would like to work at our school for up to three years and retain their substantive position. Our School

Kalgoorlie-Boulder CHS was opened in 2006 and proudly offers secondary courses from Year 7 to 10. The school prides itself on an enrolment of over 900 students from a diverse range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, who all contribute to a vibrant and collaborative school culture.

The school's committed student services team ensure excellent pastoral care and monitoring of students, with a dedicated student services Deputy Principal coordinating the school's focus on each student as an individual. Dynamic teaching staff offer engaging delivery of both main curriculum areas and a diverse range of subjects and programs catering for students with a variety of interests and needs.

Being a major regional centre and mining town, Kalgoorlie-Boulder provides comprehensive facilities, services, and infrastructure, making it a comfortable location in which to live and work. Kalgoorlie-Boulder is proud of its history and heritage, including rich Aboriginal histories and cultures.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
