Yawarra Community School is an SSP school located in Dubbo and is part of the Wambuul Macquarie Network. Yawarra Community School currently caters for the learning needs of 54 students K-12, with a moderate or severe intellectual disability, and autism. The school has 43% of the student population Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
There are currently 8 classes, with the possibility of growth.
With a strong focus on student and staff wellbeing, curriculum and assessment and developing the functional communication of our students, staff prioritise building their knowledge and skills in these areas.
Yawarra Community School values its strong sense of community and works collaboratively with parents, carers, allied health and local support services to deliver holistic support for students with complex needs.
Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with moderate/severe intellectual disabilities, autism, physical impairments, challenging behaviours and complex healthcare needs for students in K-12
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work in a collaborative team, establish relationships with parents, community, and support agencies.
- Demonstrated successful experience in teaching students with intellectual disabilities, autism and complex behaviour and health care needs.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal Education policy and capacity to meet the leaning needs of complex students from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
