About the role:
A highly rewarding opportunity to join Box Hill Institute as the Work Education Teacher!
As the Work Education Teacher you will be providing high quality and innovative teaching and course materials to students with intellectual disabilities and/or cognitive impairments. You will be supporting student success in their Certificate II Work Education course and their work placements in order to help improve their employment and/or educational pathways.
You will be delivering planned lessons using a variety of methods including Moodle to engage students and meet their learning styles and needs as well as providing a safe and supportive learning environment that enables students to successfully complete their qualification. You will also have the opportunity to complete workplace visits during work placements when necessary.
The Work Education Teacher is a member of the Disability Enterprises team in the Faculty of Health, Community, Disability and Animal Sciences. Disability Enterprises provides accredited foundation programs at Certificate I and II level such as Transition Education and Work Education, for learners with intellectual disabilities. The Disability Enterprise unit forms partnerships on behalf of BHI with Disability Service Providers and Disability Enterprises and delivers accredited training to their participants and employees.
About You:
To deliver the Certificate II in Work Education a teacher/trainer must have;
- Certificate IV Training & Assessment (TAE40116) or higher teaching qualification in adult education AND
- Demonstrable expertise in teaching in the special education field.
This expertise can be demonstrated by possessing the following:
- Bachelor of Education with a Special Education (or higher) specialisation area
OR
- Evidencing relevant knowledge of theories, methods, and practices in teaching learners with a permanent cognitive impairment/intellectual disability through a combination of activities such as:
- Ongoing relevant professional development
- Engagement with disability teacher networks
- Peer review of teaching/third party report detailing performance
- Documented relevant teaching experience
- Units of competency imported from accredited courses or endorsed training packages must reflect the requirements of trainers specified in the endorsed or accredited training product.
You will also possess experience understanding adult learning principles and the ability to utilise learning management systems as well as being able to demonstrate your passion for knowledge sharing. In addition, you will possess the ability to design and deliver engaging and relevant course materials and lessons whilst working collaboratively within a team, contributing to the positive work environment and culture
The right candidate will be readily adaptable to changing circumstances within the classroom and provide a highly supportive and compassionate demeanour and high level communication skills.
