Job description

Warrah is a disability services provider, based in North West Sydney. Inspired by the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, Warrah has been offering quality supports and services for adults and children living with disability for over 50 years. Warrah is a vibrant community, enriching the lives of individuals through our broad range of services, which include Supported Independent Living (SIL), Community Support Services (CSS) and Warrah Specialist School. We also have a certified Biodynamic Farm and Farm Shop.

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant who aligns with our Rudolf Steiner philosophy and is committed to supporting our teachers in the delivery of individual education plans to our students. This is a part-time role of 5 days a week for 6.5 hours a day from 08:30 to 15:30 during school terms only.

While qualifications in educational support and experience in specialist education are desirable, they are not essential. Passion, energy and commitment to bringing Waldorf education to our students is equally important. Our school offers quality and individualised education for students with moderate to severe disabilities, from Kindergarten to Year 12.

Our innovative outdoor classroom curriculum offers educational and vocational programs, in the Steiner tradition of learning. Learning is fostered through engaging students in a range of practical tasks including woodwork, weaving, music, drama, farming, gardening and life skills programs. Our caring and supportive school is the only Steiner based Special school in Australia, offering Education with a Difference.

Warrah Specialist School is a small school set in a rural property and is part of a broader organisation – Warrah. Warrah is a not-for-profit (registered charity), community-based organisation supporting individuals with a disability in a range of services and settings. We remain committed to the Vision of our founding families and to creating and connecting to community life.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • To assist in teaching and supervision of pupils.
  • To take class alone from time to time.
  • To support pupils with special needs who require to be taken out of the class for individual lessons.
  • To ensure compliance to all Warrah Policies and Procedures.

The following experience, skills and attributes are important to success in this role:

  • Training and/or Experience in Rudolf Steiner Curative Education, equivalent or related field.
  • Training and/or experience in Assisting/ Special Education/ Disability Services or related field.
  • Current Driver’s License.
  • Current NDISWC, WWCC and First Aid Certificate.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of the NSW Disability Services Act (1993).
  • Respect for the wholeness of each student and his/her potential.
  • Ability to respect and follow through on the Principal’s and Class Teacher’s directions.
  • Experience in working with children with disabilities.
  • Interest in artistic and creative educational practices.

At Warrah we offer a diverse and inclusive work environment, competitive salary and other benefits including on-site parking and salary packaging. For further information please email ***********@warrah.org.au.
