Your Opportunity
The (YASS) provides support, assistance and accommodation for young people who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness. The service provides support to vulnerable young people by connecting them to school, work, vocational training, and other support services whilst assisting them to obtain long term housing.
You will be responsible for leading a team of 5 Residential Youth Workers who provide intensive support to youth who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless due to alcohol and/or other drug use, to secure long-term stable accommodation. This role will provide supervision, guidance and support to the team as well as be responsible for auditing of case notes and ongoing reporting functions for both the crisis and transitional accommodations.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Respond to referrals of clients to the service from internal and external support services and conduct over the phone and formal face to face assessments of suitability for support
- Undertake assessments and intakes for clients, including all necessary paperwork and application forms
- Provide expert advice to internal stakeholders on a range of complex and sensitive issues and assist others in the resolution of conflict
- Assist staff with the day-to-day running of the service by providing supervision and programme support in line with program outcomes
- Provide intensive ongoing person-centred case management in line with MA’s National Case Management Approach and review progression against case plan.
- Contribute to staff performance discussions when required including setting priorities and outcomes, planning and organising work and monitoring workflows
With a significant background in leadership in the community services and/or child, youth & family sectors, you will be confident in your values-based leadership and workforce planning. Other requirements include:
- Relevant university degree with relevant experience or other appropriate qualifications or experience acceptable to Mission Australia to perform the role
- Demonstrated experience and sound understanding of working with vulnerable people and the issues impacting them such as AOD, FDV, Homelessness and Mental Health issues
- Exceptional experience leading teams, developing a positive team culture and effective people management
- A positive and person-centred approach with a strong guiding belief about everyone’s capacity to grow within and beyond their current circumstances
- Ability to manage a range of tasks including those which fall outside of case management in order to ensure others provide the support required for clients accessing the service
- Full driver licence with no restrictions
