This role is vital in sample processing and supporting the reporting of genomic findings for patients in a clinically relevant timeframe. It requires excellent teamwork, meticulous attention to detail and close adherence to deadlines so that patient test results can be provided in a timely manner. Saturday work will be required on a rotational basis.
As our Technical Assistant in the ZERO Molecular Profiling team your purpose will be to:
- Accurately and efficiently process patient samples so that nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) are available for immediate or later testing as required
- Isolate DNA/RNA from patient samples and from different biomaterial sources
- Accurately label all processed patient samples whilst ensuring patient confidentiality
- Maintain accurate records for all processed samples
- Demonstrate high level of organisational skills
- Prepare samples, liaising with couriers and external laboratory collaborators for sample distribution
- Assist Research Technicians, Research Assistants and other senior team members where required with various laboratory techniques to optimise and integrate new methods and technologies to enhance patient sample quality, quantity and turnaround time
- Liaise with hospitals for sample collection and shipping
- Proactively coordinate the laboratory supplies inventory, sample and data quality management, and auditing
- Actively engage and help drive the continued development of method improvements
- Follow and help establish operational procedures to deliver service levels equivalent to a diagnostic laboratory
- Ensure the infrastructure to support rapid sample processing is operating according to agreed metrics to deliver patient centred data to relevant stakeholders within the agreed timeframes
To succeed you will have…
- Tertiary qualifications in science or relevant laboratory processing experience
- 1 + years relevant laboratory experience
- Experience with molecular biology techniques
- Excellent communication skills and must be capable of always maintaining a professional demeanour
- The ability to work in an independent manner as well as able to work within a team environment
- Experience with PC2 and WHS standards and behaviour and handling patient samples is highly desirable
