About the organisation
About the team
The Local & Independent News Association (LINA) is an industry association supporting hyperlocal and independent news publishers. LINA has a small team of 8 staff (5.4FTE) plus contractors. You will work closely with the Member Engagement Coordinator, Executive Support Officer and the Data & Insights Analyst to provide support to member services, communications, and policy functions. You will have direct engagement with news publishers, providing support and advice on a case-by-case basis and input to LINA’s relationship with a sales representation agency partner on the aggregated advertising project.
About the membership
LINA is an industry association supporting hyperlocal and independent digital news publishers. Its job is to strengthen public interest journalism, provide capacity building support to local newsrooms and coordinate networking and shared services that generate economies of scale across our membership group.
LINA’s membership includes 62 news publishers who collectively produce 85 mastheads across Australia. LINA members are locally owned and controlled news publishers, gathering news content by and for a defined community. They publish quality news content across a broad range of topics, engaging journalists and contributors within their communities. While some members also publish a print version, LINA members are digital native.
About the role
This is a challenging and exciting role that will keep you busy across a range of systems. While you will be supporting LINA’s technical infrastructure, the role is primarily focused on keeping hyperlocal newsrooms connected through dedicated member support and researching new digital publishing and communications tools. You will work closely with other LINA staff to identify areas of improvement across the organisation’s digital systems and provide dynamic support across our projects. This is a role for a self-motivated problem-solver who can switch between diverse tasks easily and communicates well with members and co-workers.
In addition, the Technical Manager will lead an aggregated advertising project to support the growth of local and independent news services and connect advertisers with localised audiences.
The task is to coordinate the development and implantation of a collective sales representation across a group of local news publishers (LINA members). The purpose of the project is to:
- Help advertisers reach engaged local audiences;
- Generate income for local publishers to produce impactful journalism; and
- Grow capacity among small publishers to run digital advertising campaigns.
