Cobram Estate Olives (CBO) is searching for someone to join the team based in Boundary Bend with a genuine interest in agriculture/horticulture. This role will work closely with their fellow team members in providing technical support through the collection, analysis and interpretation of field data to support the growth of Australia's No.1 Extra Virgin Olive Oil producer.
The Role
The role will be based at Cobram Estate’s Olive Grove in Boundary Bend, Victoria, and report to the Regional Technical Manager.
Responsibilities will include (but not limited to) the following activities:
- Undertake pest and disease field monitoring and assist in the development of control programs.
- Undertake soil, soil solution and plant tissue collection and analysis and assist in the preparation of fertiliser programs.
- Assist the irrigation staff to undertake soil moisture monitoring and climatic data collection and to analyse and interpret this data for irrigation scheduling purposes and pest and disease control.
- Assist, monitor and review pruning practices for young tress and fully developed trees in conjunction with the technical team and management.
- Analyse and interpret climatic data from the site Weather Stations, to assist the Irrigation Manager with irrigation scheduling.
- Assist with pre-harvest research and data management, including fruit maturity and oil accumulation analysis.
- Assist the Technical Team on the development and update of the mapping system of the Grove.
- Perform Quality Checks during harvest
- Attend seminars and workshops to remain up-to-date with best practices in technical issues
The role will ideally suit someone who is keen to learn from some of the best Olive and Horticultural specialists and grow their career. The successful candidate will have a positive attitude and willingness to perform a variety of duties coupled with the following experience and attributes:
- Experience in a similar environment or farm experience preferred but not essential;
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to build effective relationships and communicate with a diverse range of people both internal and external;
- Proactive and self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel);
- Capacity and the desire to take on more responsibilities over time;
- A current drivers’ licence will be required;
