The Opportunity

Noosa Council is seeking a qualified professional to undertake investigations, analysis of traffic related issues/enquiries and provide technical support and advice.

  • Position Remuneration: Level 5.1 ($90,851 Base annual salary) / ($103,123 Total remuneration package which is based on a permanent full-time employee and inclusive of 12% employer superannuation and 17.5% leave loading)

About You

To undertake this position, you will have a well-developed understanding of the Australian Road Rules, the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and Austroads publications.

You will have high-level knowledge and demonstrated experience in civil engineering.

Furthermore, but not limited to, the successful incumbent will possess well-developed analytical, conceptual and investigative reasoning skills with proven ability to analyse data and make recommendations gathered from investigations.

The position's focus will be:

  • Assist senior officers with the investigation and response to customer enquiries in relation to traffic engineering matters.
  • Coordinate the collection, management and analysis of traffic count data and provide technical advice and recommendations to designers, senior officers, and the general public.
  • Implement regulatory, directional and speed signs plus line-marking changes throughout the Council network as required and in accordance with Standard Procedures and Council values. 
  • Assess Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes associated with events and civil infrastructure projects and decide whether to approve or refuse such proposals.
  • Investigate and respond to heavy vehicle requests relating to travel routes for excess mass and over-dimensioned vehicles in accordance with the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
  • Play a key role on Council’s Traffic Advisory Committee and Speed Management Committee, including the preparation of technical reports.
  • Research and analyse crash data managed by the Department of Transport & Main Roads to assess risk and develop potential infrastructure improvements to resolve deficiencies. 
  • Ensure the safe and efficient needs of all road users are appropriately catered for, including pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Assist in the preparation of road safety audits and/or preparation of briefs for external road safety auditors to identify road safety issues.
  • Prepare conceptual plans and/or preliminary designs to address identified road safety issues. 
  • Review and provide technical input on civil engineering designs.
  • Assist in the preparation of applications for government assistance programs as required, such as Black Spot, TIDS, SafeST, PTAIP, the Cycle Networks Program (CNP) and others.
