The Technical Services Officer is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring the seamless integration of technical farm support, quality assurance, biosecurity measures, and compliance documentation within our poultry operations. Your primary objective will be to optimize flock health, welfare, biosecurity, production efficiency, and regulatory compliance while championing best industry practices.
The Role
• Reporting to Veterinarian and Mill Operations Manager some of your duties and responsibilities will include:
• Offer comprehensive technical guidance and support to farm personnel.
• Conduct regular farm visits to assess flock health, behaviour, and production metrics.
• Troubleshoot technical issues related to production and health.
• Issue farm visit reports, including non-compliances, and provide support to address and close out non-conformances.
• Assist in overseeing day-old chick placements, livestock transfers, farm placements, vaccination crews, and farm sanitation.
• Work with the Technical Services team to develop and implement robust quality assurance protocols for maintaining high standards in egg production, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.
• Assist in overseeing biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreaks, including vaccinations, sanitation, and hygiene protocols.
• Conduct risk assessments and recommend improvements to enhance biosecurity practices on the farm.
• Develop and update farm policies and procedures in line with quality assurance, industry standards, and regulatory guidelines.
• Ensure accurate and up-to-date record-keeping to facilitate audits and compliance checks.
• Organize training sessions for farm personnel on husbandry, quality assurance practices, biosecurity measures, and compliance protocols.
• Develop educational materials and resources to facilitate continuous learning and skill enhancement among the team.
• Provide guidance on the proper implementation of policies and procedures across the farm.
About You
• Bachelor’s degree in Poultry Science, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in poultry farm management or Technical Services, preferably experience in a layer farm setting.
• Strong knowledge of poultry health, husbandry, and management practices.
• Ability to analyse data and make data-driven decisions to optimise flock performance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and collaborate with farm staff.
• Proficiency in record-keeping and report generation.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
