The Position
The Technical Services Officer will work under the broad direction of the Divisional Senior Technical Officer at the Division of Biomedical Science and Biochemistry within the Research School of Biology. This position will have close working relationships with members of the Division's technical support and administration teams, and liaise closely with the Head of the Division, Group Leaders, academic staff, and senior research and technical professional staff across the school to ensure the safe operation, maintenance, and development of the Division's laboratories and animal facilities, and animal care and husbandry.
Technical Services Officer will be responsible for caring for, and managing, the Xenopus laevis and rodent colonies used in research by the Division; maintaining, monitoring, purchasing, and operating equipment or consumables essential for providing animal care; cage clean-up and servicing; autoclaving; waste treatment and waste disposal; and ensuring regulatory compliance related to animal care, biosecurity or ethics. The role includes operating and maintaining a range of scientific equipment and providing general technical support, or assisting the technical support team with their routine tasks.
The Person
The Research School of Biology is looking for a team member with excellent interpersonal skills and the capacity to quickly develop productive, professional relationships with colleagues and clients. Highly developed organisational skills and effective self-management are key. The person should have a caring attitude towards research animals.
The School
The Research School of Biology (RSB) carries out research and teaching in a wide range of biological and biomedical sciences and is housed in multiple buildings on the University's Acton Campus.
