We are seeking a Technical Team Lead to join the fisheries department within the Queensland State Government, based in Brisbane’s CBD. This is a full-time opportunity until December 2024, with some flexibility for working from home arrangements and the potential for further contract extension.
In this role you will provide technical support to assist in the implementation and ongoing delivery of field trials and new NX Fishery Conditions within the Independent Onboard Monitoring Team. This position offers you the opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, undertaking data validation and customer support in a great team environment.
We are seeking someone who is self-driven to deliver first class customer support and troubleshooting advice, with proven leadership experience.

Duties:
- Lead, and directly supervise, the 5 TO3 positions within the IOM Team
- Coordinate the in-field operational tasks
- Coordinate the development of the Vessel Monitoring Plans, operational guides, and other relevant in-field documentation
- Respond to enquiries from the team and fishers
- Plan travel where required
- Work in the field to support technical staff where required
- Work with hardware and software suppliers to ensure the cameras are operating as expected
- Assist with the coordination of the review of video footage and review protocols
- Support the procurement of IOM goods and services
- Other tasks as required.

Essential requirements for this role:
- Open driver’s licence
- Ability to travel away from home for several days at a time
- Demonstrated capacity to lead a team (of technical staff)
- A sound understanding of the technical aspects of onboard camera systems or similar
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks regularly.
- A good understanding of the objectives of IOM
- An understanding of commercial gillnet and trawl fishing operations
- A sound understanding of electronic data transfer systems and options
- A degree in Environmental Management or equivalent
- Fish identification skills.
