About the Role
The Technician reports to the Bulk Handling Maintenance Supervisor. This comes under the Rollingstock department and is part of the Asset Management Division that is responsible for ensuring all TasRail owned assets are fit for purpose.
The role of the Technician is to undertake maintenance and repairs to all bulk handling facilities and equipment, provide leadership and technical support to the work group and assist in managing/supervising contractors.
Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
- Mentor Senior Maintainers, Maintainers and Assistants as required;
- Prepare detailed Task Safety Analysis and assist with Risk Assessments as required;
- Assume a leadership role in effecting the prompt and efficient repair of bulk handling plant and equipment as required;
- Assume a leadership role in the co-ordination of out-of-hours repairs and inspections to all relevant plant and equipment;
- Provide technical support above trade level;
- Assist in the control of work within approved budgets;
- Provide accurate information to on-line computer systems;
- Ensure all appropriate policies detailed in the Safety Management Manual are implemented and followed;
- Responsible for identifying problems and/or improvements in all working activities;
- Be willing to undertake further training as required;
- Be prepared to provide on line, out-of-hours technical assistance as required;
- Assist in managing / supervising contractors; and
- Undertake preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance on plant and equipment
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Relevant Trade and post Trade qualification in a mechanical discipline OR Trade and post Trade qualification in an electrical discipline with current Tasmanian A Grade Electrical Licence;
- Genuine commitment to a Zero Harm safe working environment;
- High standard of professional and ethical conduct;
- High level communication and interpersonal skill;
- Ability to work to tight time schedules;
- Able to assume a lead role in the identification and control of risks/hazards in the workplace; and
- Able to induct and manage contractors in accordance with TasRail contractor management policies and procedures.
