At Lotus Assist, we are passionate about making a positive change for neurodivergent kids and their families. We have created The Neuro Nest as a different way to provide therapy programs — a safe and supportive space where children can connect, engage in activities, and foster friendships in a welcoming environment. Our approach combines outdoor adventure, nature-based play, and small group activities to create a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere where children can bloom. We prioritise understanding each child's unique strengths and fostering self-acceptance and confidence through personalised therapeutic interventions.
Position Overview: We are seeking dedicated Therapy Assistants to join our multidisciplinary team of allied health experts, working 3 hours in the afternoons and Saturdays. As a Therapy Assistant, you will play a vital role in implementing our play-based therapy program for autistic and neurodiverse children. You will work closely with our Lead Therapist to facilitate outdoor activities, nature-based play, and small group sessions aimed at promoting self-acceptance, confidence, and social skills development in our participants.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning and implementation of play-based therapy activities, including outdoor adventure days, nature-based play, and small group sessions.
- Support individualised care plans for each child based on their sensory needs, goals, cues, and triggers.
- Ensure all activities, environments, and programming are autism-specific and free from sensory distractions.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive environment where children can express themselves and build friendships.
- Collaborate with therapists, and other team members to observe and assess participants' progress.
- Provide feedback and support to participants to help them develop self-regulation skills and confidence in their neurodiversity.
- Maintain documentation and records related to participants' progress and individualised care plans.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Certificate III or IV in Disability Support, Allied Health Assistance, or related field or relevant experience.
- Experience working with autistic and neurodiverse children in a therapy or support role.
- Understanding of autism spectrum disorders and neurodiversity principles.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with children and their families.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting children with diverse needs.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to pass a Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check and National Police Check.
Personal experience with neurodivergence is highly regarded within our team, as we believe in the importance of lived experience in creating meaningful connections and providing effective support.
